Many of us find life challenging because we spend so much of our time and energy thinking about things that happened in the past or what might happen in the future.
We also argue with the way life is believing it should be different in some way. Combined these habits set us up for a life of suffering and resistance to the way things are. In short they rob us of our natural state of happiness.
Mindfulness teaches us to be more present. To be aware of where we are and what we’re doing. It helps us to stay calm and centred despite what’s going on around us. Incorporating Mindfulness into our daily routine has many benefits including:
• Improved Happiness
• Improved Well-Being
• Reduction in Stress
• Personal Growth
• Your Ability to Handle Setbacks
• The Removal of Blockages and Limitations
• Lessening of Resistance

Why do we need to be mindful?
Frequently Asked Questions
I'd like to learn more first. Can you recommend any Mindfulness books?
Yes, there are two that I really like. The most structured and easy to follow book I have read is Mindfulness – A Practical Guide by Mark Williams and Danny Penman. Follow the exerices and do them daily and they will change your life. Another super introduction to mindfulness is Oli Doyle’s book “Mindfulness Plain & Simple“. There are hundreds of books on the subject but these two are enough. Reading changes nothing unless you do the work. Finding time to practice is the primary challenge for many of us and that is the reason for the group. A dedicated setting to spend 60 minutes to 90 minutes to devoted totally to yourself.
How much does it cost to attend?
This is a voluntary project and is not designed to make a profit. You will be asked to make a contribution of £5.00 towards room hire and materials.
How often will meetings take place?
The plan is to hold two meetings a month and they will take place on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month.
Do I have to disclose anything personal?
Absolutely not. That is why there is nothing to fear. You are there to work on yourself and make positive changes to your life. In fact sharing our challenges is actively discouraged. Mindfulness is all about changing what happens on the inside.
Do I have to meditate?
The word meditation is widely misunderstood. All it really means is to focus our attention inwards and notice what is going on. This is where transformation takes place. It’s not hard. It’s not woo woo. Please don’t let the term put you off.
Is mindfulness Buddism?
Mindfulness predates Buddism but most of us associate it with the Bhudda. However it has evolved into field in it’s own right. We recognise and respect these origins but we do not utilise any religious practices or beliefs at these meetings. It is an inclusive group and anyone who wants to make changes to their own lives is welcome. For those interested in Buddhism, Wimborne has it’s own Sangha which runs separately. More information on this can be found here.
